About
The Red Soil Collective
Eco-socialist and decolonial analysis from Africa — confronting capitalism, empire, and ecological collapse through solidarity, research, and collective imagination.
Our Mission
Critical eco-socialist reporting and analysis from Africa and beyond — connecting struggles for democracy, equality, and ecological survival, and imagining life beyond profit and domination.
Our Approach
The Red Soil approaches power, politics, and ecology through an eco-socialist and decolonial lens. We trace today's crises — inequality, climate breakdown, displacement, and war — to their roots in capitalism and empire. Our analysis rejects false neutrality: we stand with the oppressed, with workers, and with the Earth itself.
Editorial Values
- Truth over neutrality: Writing should confront power, not flatter it
- People and planet first: Human and ecological liberation are inseparable
- Democratise knowledge: Center voices and movements from Africa and the wider world, challenging hierarchies of expertise and empire
- Solidarity, not charity: Change is collective, not paternalistic
- Clarity and courage: Speak plainly, think critically, and never apologize for demanding systemic change
